My friend Mary (who was in charge of the Baltimore trip and Bocce Ball) invited 15 people to join her in McHenry, Maryland in a cabin right on Deep Creek Lake, about 3 1/2 hours from DC. Let me first tell you about the house. Four bedrooms, 2 living rooms, a sauna, hot tub, and a big screen TV. Can you ask for anything more? The location: right on the water. Well, maybe not right on the water, there was a 45 second walk to the water.
I will give you a play by play of the weekend:
Friday night: Everyone arrives, and most of us end up in the hot tub. Some of us even end up in the lake...Yeah, it was cold.
Saturday: We decided to rent kayaks. We found a company that would deliver them and had a blast. Most of the day was spent tanning on the dock, daring each other to go into the freezing water and more hot tub time. I think there was a nap in there was well. At night, Quinn, Mary and I went to check out the Honi Honi bar because we heard there was live music. We ended up a Funland with the rest of the group.
Sunday: 10 out of 16 of our group decided to go to church on Sunday. I was not part of the group. Instead, five of the Six Sinners got some ice cream and went out to the Super Walmart, where we got supplies to make a Slip and Slide and a fire pit. We then got the kayaks out again and had what some would call a water war. I don't really want to talk about it, but lets just say there was an issue with some people capsizing in the water, and a lot of blame going around. I had nothing to do with it...
After everyone made it safely back to the dock, we set up the Slip and Slide. It was a success. After we cleaned ourselves up from all the mud, we got ready for a fabulous dinner of steaks and broccoli salad.
Monday: Time to pack up and go. After dividing up all the food and packing up the cars, some of us headed out to Swallow Falls for some hiking and waterfalls. We rounded out the day with a stop in creepy Cumberland, and had the worst lunch ever at Western Sizzlin' in Hagertown...
All in all, a fabulous weekend!
